Opening Keynote Speaker
Dr. Harry Wong

Author of the well-known “The First Days of School” book, Dr. Harry Wong will deliver the keynote address at this year’s Building Bridges Conference. Wong’s presentation, “How to Be an Effective and Successful Teacher,” is sure to be engaging, thought-provoking, and helpful.


Also Presenting:
Dave Shepard

A native of rural North Carolina and a product of public education in four states, Dave Shepard brings experience, common sense and practicality to any educational gathering. He has dealt with middle and high school students for all of his thirty-five years in education. His experiences include teaching, coaching, curriculum writing, program design and administration. He has also assisted school districts in over thirty-five states to help develop and refine their educational programs by providing quality professional development and teacher in-services.

Dave Shepard will present a preconference session on Sunday, November 10, from 1:00-5:00 p.m., titled “Avoiding Classroom Comas” about student engagement. Shepard will also present a general session and several breakouts throughout the conference.


About Building Bridges

The Building Bridges Conference offers an opportunity for Missouri’s educators to share strategies, approaches, and best practices targeted toward improved educational and career preparedness of our students. The conference convenes practitioners from several exciting and innovative programs, including High Schools That Work, Technology Centers That Work, and Making Middle Grades Work.

Please note that meals and exhibits will take place in Salon A, rather than in Windgate Hall as published in the conference program.

Any payments received that are made out to Missouri Center for Career Education or the University of Central Missouri will be returned to be corrected for payment to Treasurer – State of Missouri.
