“Green” additions to lending library

Resources @ MCCE has added some new titles that could help educators and counselors who are looking for programs discussing ways to improve the planet.  The Green Matters series offers programs on Bio Fuels, Recycling, Pollution, Alternative Energy, and Conservation.  Green Architecture features students designing an energy-efficient house.  We’ve also found an interesting website, www.eia.doe.gov/kids/classactivities/teachers&students.html with lots of activities developed by the National Energy Education Development Project for Primary, Elementary, Intermediate and Secondary age group students.  Check them out and let us know what you think!

This is an interesting variety of materials for educators to begin exploring the knowledge and skills needed for “green jobs” or “green-collar jobs.”

What exactly is a green-collar jobs? The following story from NPR (five minutes long) offers a brief description:

And this story from the AP shows that there is an interest in green jobs, at least among some of those looking for training around the country:

It would be interesting to find out about any Missouri career education programs that have a green hue.
